Recording session’s preparation is like a tuning up of a mechanism consisting of numerous segments. Conductor’s technical and artistic preparation is being presented, as being a significant element of the recording session. Orchestra score’s stages of preparation are laid out, as well as musical text comprehension, discovery of eventual problems and their solution prior to the said session. Examples of problems that had occurred from recording practice are presented, like rhythmic figures that are hard to read, incorrect enharmonic substitutions and the like. Also presented are the differences in conductor’s gesture at a live performance, and at a recording. A special emphasis is given to the important problem of concept creation and getting in depth in a particular work, especially in case of lack of time.
